Each year, Downers Grove South High School Science Department recognizes students for completing multiple math and science courses and maintaining a high grade point average within those courses.

The Platinum Science Award is presented to senior students who maintain an overall GPA of 4.0 or better and a science GPA of 4.0 or better. What distinguishes these scholars is that they have completed six or more courses in science, and still maintained at least a 4.0.
