Members of the Downers Grove South High School Wind Ensemble were selected to perform at the 2024 University of Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival. Bands from across the state audition to perform at the festival, and only those with the highest evaluations are invited to perform. In the 3A class division, Downers Grove South High School is one of only eight bands selected to perform this year.
“Our students consistently rank top in the state in music, and this prestigious honor confirms their talent,” said South High Principal Arwen Lyp. “We’re excited for our students and directors to have this exciting performance opportunity, and we know that they will make our school and community proud.”
The students will perform at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois in Urbana on Saturday, May 4, 2024. This year marks the 50th anniversary of this state event.

The SuperState Concert Band Festival is hosted by the University of Illinois Bands. According to its website, the festival “celebrates the legacy and tradition of great music making by middle school/junior high and high school bands in the state of Illinois.”
