Communication Standards at District 99

We are committed to building positive and productive relationships with our families. In order to accomplish this, we strive to keep our communications transparent and timely so that you are well informed.

Types of Messages

Throughout the school year, you can expect to receive regular updates by telephone or email from District 99, including from your student’s teachers, coaches, principals and district staff. We will issue text messages only in emergency situations.

Topics you can expect to receive from us include:

  • Student’s academic progress
  • Student attendance
  • Any student concerns
  • Weekly updates from the principal
  • Periodic updates from the school district
  • Emergency information (school disruptions, closures, any issues impacting the educational process)
  • Additional communications available through subscription include Daily Announcements, the Board of Education Highlights and the D99 monthly newsletter; click here to subscribe!

Chain of Communication

When you have specific questions or concerns, we encourage you to begin with the person who is closest and most familiar with the situation. For example, for classroom questions and concerns, begin with the teacher. For athletics or activities, contact the coach or sponsor. From there, you can escalate challenges that you’re having to the department chair, then administration and principal. If further conversations are needed, the superintendent and board of education may be involved to reach a resolution.

Sample chains of communication include:

  • Teacher >> Department Chair >> Assistant/Associate Principal >> Principal >> Superintendent >> Board of Education
  • Coach >> Athletic Director >> Principal >> Superintendent >> Board of Education
  • Sponsor >> Director of Activities >> Principal  >> Superintendent >> Board of Education
