Nineteen students from North High and South High in Downers Grove competed at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Competition at the University of Illinois on Saturday, May 5.

“We’re incredibly proud of our students for competing at the state level,” North High math teacher and head math coach Sally Heiwig said. “It is no easy task competing against their peers from across the state, but they stayed motivated just as they did at the Regional competition.”

According to the ICTM, the contest recognizes outstanding mathematical achievement, encourages independent study, stimulates interest in mathematics, and provides a wholesome meeting ground for students and teachers of mathematics through academic competition.
