Student Representatives Join Board

South High student Simone Black and North High student Prevail (PJ) Bonga are serving as District 99’s first student representatives on the Board of Education.

The Board welcomed North High student Prevail (PJ) Bonga and South High student Simone Black as District 99’s first student representatives on the Board of Education. To be appointed, each student collected signatures from peers and interviewed with the principal.

“I’m just extremely excited and happy to be here,” said Bonga. “I feel like I can do a good job giving students at my school a voice.” She is a member of the track and field team, student advisory council and senior class board.

“I’ve been waiting for students to have a voice, and I’m really excited to see what will come out of this experience,” said Black. At South High, she’s involved in Snowflake and Snowball, choir, drama club, plays, Mad Dash and is a peer tutor.

The students will participate in the Board’s public meetings and discussions as non-voting members.
