DGS Principal Update: Curriculum Showcase

Greetings South High families,

Despite our inability to gather together in person for the annual Curriculum Night, our faculty is excited to tell you a little more about the curriculum and the workings of their classrooms. This year the Curriculum Showcase will be brought to you through videos created by individual teachers. To access each teacher’s video, simply click on the course title within Home Access Center. This will take you to the same location where the teacher has linked the syllabus and you can access the video there.

Similar to the past, the members of the Counseling and Student Support Services Department have put together information that is specific to each year in school. Click on the following resources for detailed information.

Seniors - Class of 2021:  video presentation (passcode 49q=+2Ue)
Juniors - Class of 2022:   video presentation
Sophomores - Class of 2023:   video presentation (passcode hm%$dem7)
Freshmen - Class of 2024:     video presentation

NOTE: with the move to the modified hybrid schedule, parent teacher conferences are being moved up one week. They will be held on October 15 & 16 rather than what was reported in the freshmen video.

We are proud to have a library that is more than just a place to get books. The space and the adults who operate it serve as a remarkable resource for our staff and students. Take a few minutes to watch this informational video. We are here to serve you.

Finally, we are excited to offer a new peer tutoring program to our students. From the link that is available under the “student” tab on the South High webpage, on the CSSS Department website, and the DGS Library website, students can request immediate help or help within the coming week. Help is available in the core subjects, but we also have tutors willing to help in areas like CTE and Fine Arts. The link will also take students to request help via the Literacy Center and the Math Resource Center. As always, we encourage students to take advantage of the teachers’ office hours when you need help, but if for some reason that doesn't work well for the schedule, this is another option. This week tutoring will be available during the day but starting next week we hope to begin offering after school and evening hours as well.

Thank you for your continued partnership in serving our students.  We look forward to making this the best experience possible for everyone.

Stay well,

Ed Schwartz
South High School Principal
