District 99 Girls Gymnastics Coach Kristyn Campos Named 2020-21 Coach of the Year

District 99 Girls Gymnastics Head Coach Kristyn Campos has been named 2020-21 Coach of the Year by the Illinois High School Association. Campos is entering her 15th season serving as head coach for girls gymnastics, and currently serves as head coach for the North High/South High cooperative team formed in 2019. She is also a faculty member in the social studies department at South High.

“Kristyn is a wonderful coach and role model to our student-athletes,” says Denise Kavanaugh, athletic director at North High. “She brings a positive energy and leadership to our cooperative team.”

The team, which refers to itself as the “Trostangs,” a combination of Trojans and Mustangs, won the West Suburban Conference Title in 2021, and Sectional Champions in 2019, which qualified the team as the top 8th in the state. Campos has led teams to win the WSC Conference Title for 13 of her 14 seasons.

“Kristyn entered a challenging environment back in 2019 when our two schools combined to form one girls gymnastics program,” says Randy Konstans, athletic director at South High. “She handled the merging of the programs with care and compassion, which resulted in an immediate and strong bond between team members.”
