The District 99 Board of Education held its business meeting on March 14, 2016. Highlights from the meeting include:

Board Approvals

The Board unanimously approved the personnel reports for 2016-17, including the recommendation to grant tenure to 12 teachers. In addition, Jennifer Martinez was approved as student activities director and Jake Giblin was approved as department chair for mathematics at South High.

The Board also unanimously approved purchasing new marching band uniforms for North High. Uniforms are replaced at each school every ten years. Every five years, the uniforms are replaced at one of the two schools; South High’s uniforms were replaced in 2011. The lowest responsible bid was $139,726.64 from Fruhauf Uniforms in Witchita, Kansas; the uniforms are made in the U.S.A. Click here for details.

Other Discussions

Superintendent Dr. Mark McDonald is an executive committee member of the Legislative Education Network of DuPage County, an organization that identifies and influences legislation impacting DuPage County schools. At a recent meeting, members discussed the ongoing budget impasse in Springfield and the negative impact it is having on public schools.

The Board members also discussed holding a retreat with the new superintendent and a member of the Illinois Association of School Boards in the fall.
