DGS Students Recognized for Excellence in Math and Science

Each year, Downers Grove South High School Math and Science Departments recognize students for completing multiple math and science courses and maintaining a high grade point average within those courses.

Science Department Awards

The Platinum Science Award is presented to senior students who maintain an overall GPA of 4.0 or better and a science GPA of 4.0 or better. What distinguishes these scholars is that they have completed six or more courses in science, and still maintained at least a 4.0.

In addition to the Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Science Awards, the DGS Science Department is proud to honor senior Jacob Messina! The American Association of Physics Teachers sponsors an award to acknowledge success and to encourage and motivate students to continue in the field of Physics.

The Bronze Science Award is presented to junior students who have already completed at least four courses in science and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Math Department Awards

The Platinum Math Award is presented to senior students who have previously won the Gold Math Award, have completed Calculus 3, and have earned an A for each semester in all high school math classes. (Computer Science does not count.)
