Parent Open House: Thursday, August 30

Attend Open House to visit the school, attend your student’s classes, meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and experience the school climate!

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at South High School!  I want to take this opportunity to personally invite you to the South High School Parent Open House on Thursday, August 30, 2018.  The purpose of the program is to give you an opportunity to visit the school, attend your student’s classes, meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and experience the school climate.  It is a great opportunity to establish communication links between parents and teachers.

We will hold opening sessions hosted by administrators, deans, and counselors to share information specific to each class.  These sessions will run from 6:15 pm to 6:50 pm.  The topics and locations are listed below.

  • Freshmen – The Freshman Experience: Academics, Athletics, Activities (Large Gym)
  • Sophomores – Career Exploration and Evaluating your Four Year Plan (Cafetorium)
  • Juniors – College and Post High School Planning (Auditorium)
  • Seniors – The Senior Year: Decision Making Process for Post High School Planning (Cafeteria)

Following the opening sessions, the format allows you an opportunity to follow your student’s daily schedule.  I recommend that you ask your student to copy his/her schedule or log on to our Home Access Center and print it out.  For those parents needing it, members of our staff will be available to print schedules on Open House night.  Stop in room A102 or room A109 if you need assistance.  I have attached an informational flier to this email that outlines the bell schedule for the evening.

During the times in your student’s schedule when they normally have lunch or study hall, there are a couple of meaningful ways to fill your time. You may choose to visit with counselors, deans and administrators.  The counselors and deans will be available in their offices.  Additionally, you may want to visit the library where you can get assistance in logging into the Home Access Center (HAC) and/or get information on your student’s use of the Chromebook.  You may also see overviews of some of the technological tools that your students will use such as Google Drive.

I would be remiss if I did not warn you about the parking challenges that are always presented on Open House night.  With the number of people that we will be hosting, parking always gets crowded.  Please carpool with a friend if possible and arrive early in the event you must park off campus.  Very limited additional parking is available at the Administrative Service Center at 6301 Springside Drive, just north of the athletic stadium.

We are looking forward to meeting you on August 30th. View the Open House flier with schedule information!

Respectfully,

Edward H. Schwartz
