First Year Institute Program for Parents: Oct. 16

First Year Institute Program for Parents: Oct. 16

DGN Parents,

You are invited to attend our First Year Institute:  a program designed to help first-time DGN parents/guardians support their children as they navigate high school. While our target audience is families who are new to Downers Grove North, we understand that sometimes different children present different needs, so if you are an experienced DGN parent/guardian who for the first time is wondering how to help a child who is struggling academically, you are more than welcome to attend this institute.

The first session is Wednesday, October 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. We will meet in the library, which is located on the 2nd floor of North High. Park in the Main Street parking lot, and we will have signs that will direct you to the library.

As students enter high school, a primary area of focus is often their academic success. Therefore, we are dedicating this session to sharing specific strategies and resources for how best to support your child in their studies. North High staff will suggest actions that students and parents/guardians should take when a student is struggling academically and will review resources available at the school. DGN parent and Executive Function Skills Specialist and Coach Lisa Marsicano will present concrete strategies that parents/guardians can implement immediately in order to help their students build the skills necessary for success. Finally, a few students will share their stories about what has worked for them.

In order for us to plan accordingly, please register for the institute by completing this RSVP form by Tuesday, October 15.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Janice Schwarze at jschwarze@csd99.org.

We hope to see you there!
