Controller

As controller since 1994, Mark Staehlin oversees all financial aspects of Community High School District 99, including strategic financial planning, accounting, auditing and reporting. Mark’s mission is to ensure that we deliver the highest quality of education to students in the most cost-effective ways possible.

In addition to his role as controller, Mark has served as the treasurer, executive officer and president of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO). He has also served on a variety of financial advisory committees for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), and has presented numerous workshops on financial topics. His leadership in these organizations ensures that District 99 shapes and adheres to the best practices in place in the industry today.

Before becoming controller, Mark was a public accountant and audit manager with McGladrey & Pullen in Olympia Fields, IL, where he consulted and managed auditing services for more than 60 Illinois public school clients.

Mark earned a B.S. in Finance in 1979 from Northern Illinois University, and became a certified public accountant in 1982. In his hometown of Palos Heights, he served in a variety of roles on the local Board of Education for over 15 years, serving as president, vice president and member.

Mark and his wife Lori were married in 1980 and have four children: Nicole, Kimberly, Lauren and John.
