The following suggestions are provided to assist in the development of web pages developed as part of
the District 99 Internet presence.
- In addition to the links provided through the standard navigation bar, links may also be provided
to return the user to appropriate intermediate locations within the District 99 hierarchy. These links should be
positioned near the District navigation bar, be clearly labeled, and not duplicate links provided through the
standard navigation bar.
- Pages should not be run-on, lengthy, or full of text. They should have a crisp, clean look. The
author should think in terms of "screen fills" and not pages.
- Important links and critical text should be visible toward the top of the page if possible,
providing the viewer as much key information as possible before scrolling further into the page.
- Make limited use of complex background patterns, extensive graphics, or unusual color schemes.
These all add unnecessarily to the time required to view the complete page.
- If complex graphics such as photographs are included, speed may be greatly enhanced by providing
a small thumbnail image or text link to the full image, warning of its size.
