Publishing to the Web Server

Use this method if you have a complete copy of your website on one of your own folders, and you want to publish your website to the District 99 Web Server.

Local Web Folder

Web Folder on District 99 Web Server

Your local copy might be on your hard drive, or floppy disk, or zip disk, or even network space at school.  Do not confuse your network disk space (usually your G: or H: drive) with the Web Server.  These are two different locations.

1. In FrontPage 2000, open up your local Web Folder using File > Open Web...
2. When your Web Folder is open, go to File > Publish Web...
   
3. Enter the complete web address in the Specify box, then click Publish.  You will see this dialog box as your Web Folder is uploaded to the District 99 Web Server:
   
4. After some time, your local Web Folder will be uploaded to the District 99 Web Server, and you will see this confirmation box:
   
5. When you are happy with your website, contact Tim Elliott, and I will link to your website from your department page.

Now you have 2 complete copies of your website!  Your local Web Folder, and your Web Folder on the District 99 Web Server.

When you make changes to one copy, the other copy is not updated.  You need to re-publish your Web Folder so the two copies are alike.  Important!  See Managing Two Web Folders for more information.
