This page supports users of the
District 99 Blackboard system. Specific resources targeted at
parents and students can be located by using the links in the right
column. Listed below are the technical requirements for Blackboard
and an email form for requesting home Blackboard support.
Blackboard Technical Requirements:
Computer: Blackboard
operates on both PC and Macintosh platforms. Blackboard is
delivered via the Web. Specifically, Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, or
ME and MacOS 9 or MacOS X are supported by Blackboard. 64 mgs of RAM
are required.
Internet Connectivity:
Blackboard operates only as fast as the Internet connection.
Broadband users will have faster access times than dial-up users.
Specialized capability:
JavaScript and Cookies must be enabled in your Browser. See your
browser help for directions for enabling each.
Recommended Software:
generally, most teachers post documents in either Microsoft Word,
PowerPoint, or Adobe Acrobat.
- Get
Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Get
Microsoft PowerPoint
reader-necessary to view PowerPoint files if a home machine does not
have PowerPoint.
- Chat and Virtual Classroom
applications require a Java
Applet. Note: this requires a one-time setup and is
downloaded automatically from Blackboard if the applet is missing from
the home machine. This link is provided as a courtesy should the
download not start automatically.
Browser Types:
- Windows 2000 (Internet Explorer 5.5,
6.0 and Netscape Navigator 7.0)
- Windows XP (IE 6.0, Navigator 7.0)
- Macintosh OS 9.2 (IE 5.1, Navigator
4.77, 7.0)
- Macintosh OS X.1 (IE 5.1, 5.2,
Navigator 7.0)
- Macintosh OS X.2 (IE 5.2, Navigator
7.0)
AOL Users: Blackboard
functions properly with AOL 9.0. If some unanticipated access
issue arises, minimize the AOL browser and use IE or Netscape.
Submitting a help request:
Limited tech support is available
through email. Individuals experiencing a technical issue with
Blackboard at home can
submit a help request. The request will be
addressed as soon as possible.
