Welcome Students!
This page contains information that
will help you access and utilize the District 99 Blackboard resource.
How to Login: Your
username and password are the same as your school network login.
Login here.
Expectations for use:
Students are expected to use all components of Blackboard properly at
all times. Expectations for the use of any District 99 technology
tool are outlined in the District's Acceptable Use Policy.
Navigation/Customization:
when a successful login occurs, a student will see his/her classes
organized under "My Courses" on the right-hand side of the Web page.
Students may customize the look of their Blackboard page by clicking on
the "Layout" button above the My Courses section. Students
may also select from a series of modules that will display unique
content on their login page by clicking the "Contents" button.
Why are some classes not available?
Participation in Blackboard for
teachers is optional. If a class is unavailable, the course's
teacher has not yet developed content for the Blackboard site, or has
chosen not to do so.
How do I use the Digital Drop Box?
The digital drop box allows students to
have online storage space for files. Each student has a digital
drop box for each class. Files can be placed in the digital drop
box from any location and then retrieved at another. For example,
a student may be working on a PowerPoint presentation at home for
English class, upload it to his or her English class digital drop box,
and then download it at school into their network storage space.
To upload a file, follow these
instructions:
- Click "Add file."
- Name the file, browse to locate it,
and add any comments you wish.
- Click submit. A message will
appear indicating that the file is being added and not sent.
Click OK. The file will now be posted to your drop box for that
class.
To download a file,
right-click on the file name and select "Save Target As." Select
the destination (PC's)
What does "Send File" do?
Sending a file sends the file into
your teacher's digital drop box. Use this command when your
teacher wants you to turn the assignment in. Please note:
using this command both sends and adds the file at the same time.
How do I use the chat?
Chat is accessible through the
Communication button on the left menu bar and then by selecting
Collaboration. Typically, chat areas are only open for a short
amount of time, for example, prior to a test. The various chat
sessions will be listed for you, simply select the "Join Chat" button.
A new window will appear that indicates
that a Virtual Classroom is loaded. Blackboard is now checking for
the appropriate Java applet required to run Chat.
Once the applet has downloaded, or if
it is already present, chat will be available. Please realize that
chat is monitored and potentially recorded and your username/login is
associated with that. BE APPROPRIATE AT ALL TIMES. MISUSE
OF CHAT AREAS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
NOTE TO PC Users running Windows
XP with App Pack 2. Windows will block the pop up window required
interact in chat sessions. You must temporarily allow pop-ups.
How do I use the Discussion Boards?
Discussion boards are an example of
asynchronous communication. While chat is real-time, message
boards are not, and can be responded to minutes, hours or even days
after a message has been posted.
Discussion boards are a great way to
share ideas, interact with your classmates and teachers, and get help
when you need it.
Discussion boards are accessible
through the Discussion Board link in the left menu bar.
BE APPROPRIATE AT ALL TIMES.
MISUSE OF THE DISCUSSION BOARDS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Please
realize that you cannot remove posts to the discussion boards and that
anonymous posts are not permitted. Discussion boards are closely
monitored by your classroom teachers.
Submitting a help request:
Students can
submit help requests through email for technical support
for their home computers by completing the appropriate support form.
