 Junior Varsity Game Notes 2008

DGS 4 Oak Oak 0
It was the Riley Marsden show. Marsden scored all four of the
Mustangs goals in route to the 4-0 victory. DGS was dominant throughout the
game. Marsden scored three of her four goals in the first half. Thanks to
a parent from Oak Park who officiated the game. The Mustangs complete
the season with a 7-2 record. The blemishes? A nasty 0-1 loss to Downers North and
a rain/snow soaked loss 1-2 to Lyons Township. Thanks to all the sophomores
who played up on the JV this season.

DGS 6 Morton 0
The Mustangs did bounce back but it took awhile. The Mustangs, from Morton, frustrated
our Mustangs the whole first half and the score remained 0-0. The second half, DGS exploded for
six goals. Jaqueline Mitchell started the rout just one and a half minutes into the half. Mitchell
controlled the game for DGS and found the net. Riley Marsden followed up three minutes later on the
first of two goals for the junior. Freshman Nicole Dietz added a bomo for a goal with just over
13 minutes left. Megan Martin buried a beautiful free kick for a goal with 1:59 left.

Way to go DGS Mustangs!!!! Last game against Oak Park on Monday!!!

DGS 1 Lyons Township 2
The Mustangs traveled to LaGrange and battled the Lions on a cold and rainy afternoon.
Unfortunately, the Lions bested the Mustangs by a score of 2-1. DGS started the scoring
when Jacqueline Mitchell finished a shot with 16:58 left in the first half. LT came back with
a goal with 4:15 left in the half. The eventual game-winning goal came with 11:45 left in the game.
The Mustangs pestered the Lions goal throughout the first half but mounted very little offensive
attack in the second. The Mustangs will try to rebound against Morton this Wednesday at DGS.

DGS 3 Leyden 0
Between the late start time and the stormy weather, the Mustangs were
raring to go for this competition.  Midfielder Jacqueline Mitchell got
DGS going as she scored at the 28:12 mark.  The lead improved
to 2-0 as defender Shannon Leahy scored a fine goal off a free kick.
The entire second half found the Mustangs pressuring Leyden’s goal.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, midfielder Trish Fancher’s shot on goal deflected off their
own defender and hit the back of the net.  The superb defense of Emily Drews,
Julie Gromacki, and Leahy helped goalkeeper Jackie Svetich earn the shutout in goal.

DGS 7 Hinsdale South 0
It took the Mustangs a little while to get going but once they started, the goals
poured in. DGS squander several scoring chance in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Megan Martin finally broke the ice on an assist from Cassie Kinzel. That was only
the beginning of the Megan Martin show. Martin assisted Jaqueline Mitchell on the
second Mustang goal. Riley Marsden moved the score along to 3-0. Martin then
ended the first half scoring on a pass from Jessica Vosicky. The second half started
quickly for the Mustangs as Martin assisted on a goal by Nicole Dietz only 30 seconds
into the half. Kinzel added the sixth goal on an assist from defender Kate Hale. The
Mustang scoring ended when Martin completed her hat trick and eight point game with
a breakaway goal at the 19:22 mark. DGS was never threatened in  the game and
Molly Graham never touched the ball in the Mustang goal.

DGS 2 Hinsdale Central 0
Julie Vana stole the show with two goals to lead the Mustangs against the
Red Devils today. The wind was a huge factor in the game today. The Mustangs
took the wind the first half and scored both goals. Vana volleyed the first
corner kick from Cassie Kinzel for the first goal and headed in the second
off another Kinzel corner kick. The Mustangs then held on against
the wind to seal the victory and improve to 3-1.

Kate Hale returns in a huge way today scoring the eventual winning goal on a
penalty kick with under five minutes left in the first half. Hale moved into the front line
and was tripped creating the PK for the Mustangs.  Freshman Nicole Dietz scored the
second goal and opened the flood gates. Riley Marsde scored with just under 17 minutes left.
The last two Mustang goals came from freshman Megan Martin. The weather was cool
but sunny in Mustang Stadium as DGS was happy to host the Hilltoppers whose field was
under water. Wednesday, the Mustang will face tough Hinsdale Central!!!

The Trojans didn't have as many chances as the Mustangs but converted on one to give DGN
the 1-0 victory. Throughout the match, the Mustangs threatened the Trojan goal and
controlled the ball but never found the back of the net.

DGS 8 Addison Tral 0
The Mustangs started the year off right with a convincing win at Addison Trail on one of the few
nice days we have seen this spring. All of the Mustangs played well. Junior Molly Graham got
her first shutout and touched the ball. Freshman Allison Tusek led the Mustangs in scoring with
two goals and two assists. One of most exciting moments of the game was the goal but the
birthday girl Junior KRISTEN KENNEDY!!  (Happy Birthday). Four different freshman were
involved in the scoring today including Tusek, Nicole Truesdale, Megan Martin and Nicole Dietz.
Junior Riley Marsden tallied a goal and an assist. Overall, a good start to the season and our
girls did a great job showing good sportsmanship.
