Although retired, Coach Rees keeps close tabs on his Mustang program. After more than 30 years coaching tennis and more than 500 dual meet wins, Coach Rees is a legend in the State of Illinois tennis community. Being an outstanding all-sport player in his youth, Coach Rees excelled in basketball and did not pick up tennis until later in his life, then becoming one of the best doubles players in the Midwest. His fiery personality and domineering ways made Coach Rees a tough and intimidating coach to face. However, his players loved to play for him! Known for his no-nonsense approach to the game, he produced some of the greatest teams and players in South history.

Coach Rees still frequents the courts at South high, mainly to check up on Coach Freischlag, and of course, to help, drawing on his vast knowledge of the sport.
