Congratulations to Hinsdale Central for 1st Place(76), Naperville Central 2nd Place(68.5) and Loyola Academy 3rd Place(64) in the rain delayed, rain shortened Super Sophomore Tournament.
While the day was not perfect, a lot of great tennis still had a chance to get played. Due to the rain we were left with many ties which we averaged in determining the scoring. We based the scoring on how far teams made it through the field. If teams didn’t finish we averaged the expected points between the teams that were tied. If you have questions as to how the scoring was determined please feel free to call. We made our best attempt to be as fair as possible.
The rest of the field was very balanced as well with ten different teams finishing in the Top four in at least one flight. Other teams scoring at least 40 pts included Naperville North(4th –60) Neuqua Valley(5th-52.5), Downers Grove South(6th-47.5) and Benet (7th-45).
I like to credit those teams that fight back after a loss and finish in 5th spot. No matter what the seed, there is a chance to do well. While this year several teams couldn’t get to that point due to the rain, the efforts of the athletes fighting through the conditions and attempting to compete under those conditions was courageous. Congratulations to Evanston for fighting back in the only 5th place spot that finished.
Special thanks to Adam Boyajian (Downers Grove North) for setting up and providing his site. Special thanks to Bob Gabler (Naperville Central) who helped seed the tournament and John Daniels (A.A. Stagg) who drove back athletes from Doerhoefer and Downers Grove North as the rain came down.
Thanks to all the coaches who helped transport players after two rounds. Thanks for helping the site directors at all of the locations. Your help makes this large tournament possible. Thanks to all of the coaches who helped out assisting the site directors. It would be a much tougher day without your support. This year we had some inexperience players at some sites which we cannot avoid, I will work more in the future to better train the players on how to run the site as I now have a better feel myself for what is required. Your assistance in an event of this magnitude is always needed though and I thank you for your efforts. Finally, I thank all of the coaches as I know you all helped significantly.
All the results should be on the Web site by the end of the week: www.csd99.org/south.
I look forward to seeing you back next year under better weather conditions.
Again, thanks to all of you for a great competitive day of tennis.
Coach Lance Allen, D.G.S.
