The South High School Jazz Ensemble in Downers Grove has accepted an invitation to perform at the Chicago Jazz Festival, which will take place in downtown Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. The ensemble will perform on Sunday, September 2, from 2:40 to 3:25 p.m. at the Chicago Community Trust Young Jazz Lions Stage, located at Congress and Lake Shore Drive.
The Chicago Jazz Festival will feature 42 groups performing at 9 different stage locations from Thursday, August 30 through Sunday, September 2. Admission to all performances is free.
“Receiving an invitation to perform alongside some of the greatest jazz professionals playing today was completely unexpected--and completely welcomed,” says South High School Fine Arts Chairman Glenn Williams. “There are only a few other high school groups performing, so it’s a tremendous honor for our students.”
South High’s Jazz Ensemble Director Craig Roselieb will direct the 24 students who will perform.
“Being able to play at the Chicago Jazz Festival is an outstanding way for us to kick-off the new school year and our program,” says Roselieb. “Our students are incredibly talented, and this prestigious invitation confirms that fact.”
Student musicians who will perform include: Michael Ruth, Christian Siki, Billy Moroney, Sean Hux, Mason Maguire, Josiah Williams, Danny Tedeschi, Alex Bahaveolos, Joe Hughes, Trevor Adams, Samantha Kotlicky, Marjorie Fera, John Shimanek, Carly Charles, Paul Carlquist, Carmy Calabria, Julia Wood, Andrada Pteanc, Ian Williams, Amanda Cervantes, Joe Perillo, Brian Moroney, Michal Witek and Grant Jordan.
