Brig. Gen. John C. Hanley 3rd Brigade Commander
Brigadier General John C. Hanley is currently the Commander, 3rd Battle Command Training Brigade, 75th Battle Command Training Division, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Deputy Commanding General, 88th Regional Support Command, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
BG Hanley began his military career as a Reserve Officers' Training Corps Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery immediately following graduation from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin.
He served in the Regular Army with two assignments with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), including service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as the 101St Aviation Brigade Fire Support Officer. He also served in the Federal Republic of Germany as Pershing Missile Platoon Leader in the 56th Field Artillery Brigade and as a Battery Commander in the 41st Field Artillery Brigade. Prior to leaving active duty, he was assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
After serving on active duty, BG Hanley entered the Army Reserve and was assigned to the 84th Division (Training) where he served in the 2nd Brigade (Basic Combat Training) as a Battalion S3, Battalion Executive Officer and Brigade S3. From 1996 to 1999, he served as Commander, 3rd Battalion, 334th Regiment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After this command assignment, he was assigned as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, 84th Division (Institutional Training), and then subsequently assigned as the Executive Officer, 6th Brigade (Professional Development), 84th Division (Institutional Training). Kenneth S. Madsen
Raised in Naperville, Mr. Madsen graduated from Naperville North High School in 1980. He went on to attend Purdue University where he graduated in 1984 from their Naval ROTC program having attained both a B.S. in Economics, B.A. in History.
He received his military commission in the United States Navy and served 2 tours at Sea. The first was on the U.S.S. Spruance DD963 (a destroyer) and the
second was on the U.S.S Sphinx ARL 24.
Following sea duty he was assigned to the Service School Command at Great Lakes Naval Center in Illinois where he was in charge of their Electrical School.
He joined the Reserves in 1991 and served until 2006. His assignments included: Ship training, Major Staff and Joint Staff.
He retired in 2006 with the rank of Commander.
Mr. Madsen also received a Law Degree from DePaul University in 1993.
He is currently the Director of the Chicago Office of International Affairs for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for the Department of Homeland Security. He is responsible for a 15 state region granting humanitarian benefits such as asylum.
Mr. Madsen lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters.
Lieutenant Commander Michael M. Kerley
Lieutenant Commander Michael M. Kerley is a native of Chicago, IL. He enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1980. Shortly after graduation from Hoffman Estates High School, he reported to Recruit Training Command (RTC) San Diego. Immediately following basic training, he was assigned to Fleet Combat Center Atlantic, and completed his Apprenticeship training as an Operations Specialist.
Upon graduation, he reported to his first duty station aboard USS Ranger (CV-61). While aboard Ranger, he served in Combat Information Center (CIC), completing his tour as an Air Intercept Controller. In September 1984, after Western Pacific and Indian Ocean deployments, he left active duty. Kerley returned to Illinois to attend college, and to transfer into the United States Navy Reserve.
Lieutenant Commander Michael M. Kerley has served in Reserve Units including Fleet Training Group Pearl Harbor and Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 213 (MIUWU). While with MIUWU-2 13, Kerley was selected and promoted to Chief Petty Officer (OSC). A few years later, he was commissioned as a Chief Warrant Officer. Upon his promotion, he transferred to Assault Craft Unit One (ACU-1), and was selected as a Limited Duty Officer (LDO), and then promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. While completing his tour of duty with ACU-1, Kerley served as the Unit's Commanding Officer. In October 2005, Kerley transferred to Fleet Forces Command. Kerley was then recalled to active duty in February 2006, and currently serves with Navy Recruiting District Chicago.
Lieutenant Commander Kerley's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and numerous campaign and unit awards. Lieutenant Commander Kerley was also recognized as the National Officer Recruiter of the Year (Reserve Component) for fiscal year 2007.
In his civilian career, Kerley has held various positions in the telecommunications industry. His career includes a fifteen-year tenure with MCI Telecommunications Inc., as an international product manager. Kerley also worked as an independent consultant, and is currently on a military leave of absence from PAETEC Communications Inc. Kerley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University in Dc Kalb, IL. He and his wife are currently raising two young daughters in Elmhurst, IL.
Gunnery Sergeant Doty
Gunnery Sergeant Doty was born in Elgin, Illinois on September 17, 1974. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 4 1992 and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California March 1993. Following recruit training, he attended Motor Transport Maintenance Course at Camp Johnson, NC.
In July 1993, Gunnery Sergeant Doty reported Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a Motor Transport Mechanic and Maintenance Management Clerk. While stationed at Truck Company, he attended the Maintenance Management Clerks Course.
In August 1994, Gunnery Sergeant Doty reported to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2rd FSSG where he served as a Motor Transport Mechanic and Maintenance Management Clerk, during which time he completed a deployment to South America in support of UNITAS 37.
In December 1996, Gunnery Sergeant Doty transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve reporting to 2d Battalion 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division at Chicago, Illinois where he served as a Motor Transport Mechanic.
In June 1997, Gunnery Sergeant Doty transferred to the Communications Platoon and participated in a Joint Task Force Counter Drug Mission in the Los Padres National Forest, California. In August 1998, he attended the Communications Electronics Maintenance Course. Upon graduation of the course, Gunnery Sergeant Doty returned to 2' Battalion, 20 Marines and served as a Radio Technician and later became the Platoon Sergeant for the Communications Platoon.
In March 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Doty served with the Inspector-Instructor Staff as the Communications Maintenance Chief until the Battalion's activation and deployment to Iraq. During the deployment to Muhmadiyah, Iraq Gunnery Sergeant Doty served as the Communications Maintenance Chief achieving a 98.7% readiness of the Battalion's Communications Assets.
In September 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Doty returned to orders with the Inspector-Instructor Staff Chicago, Illinois. He returned to the Position as the Communications Maintenance Chief and later served as the Logistics Chief deploying the Battalion to 5 countries for annual training missions. He obtained a billet that he currently holds as the Military Funeral Honors SNCO for the Marine Corps for the Chicago area. Gunnery Sergeant Doty has been responsible for ensuring that an average of 300 funeral honors per year where performed flawlessly.
In January 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Doty transferred to Training and Operations where he serves as the Training Chief. While serving as the Training Chief he retained the billet of Funeral Honors SNCO and Served as a Casualty Assistance Officer.
In October 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Doty transferred to the Peace Time, War Time, and Support Team Public Relations Specialist. While holding this position he continued to serve as the Training Chief, Funeral honors Coordinator, and Casualty Assistance Officer. Upon the Battalions return from Iraq in 2008 Gunnery Sergeant Doty returned to orders with the Inspector Instructor Staff Chicago, Illinois where he currently serves holding the billets of Training Chief, Public Relations Chief, Funeral Honors Staff Non Commissioned Officer, and Casualty Assistance Advisor.
Captain Nancy C. Cech
Captain Nancy C. Cech was born in San Diego, California and graduated from the University of San Diego in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and History. Upon completion of her studies she received her commission as a 2nd Lieutenant from the San Diego State University "Aztec" Battalion. After graduating the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course at Fort Huachuca, AZ, CPT Cech was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington and 1st Stryker Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. In 1/25 ID, CPT Cech was the Battalion Intelligence officer for 2nd BN, 8th Field Artillery Regiment from May 2002 to June 2003; the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Platoon Leader for 184th Military Intelligence Company from July 2003 to February 2005; and the Brigade Tactical Intelligence Officer under HHC Brigade from February 2005 to February 2006. In July of 2006, CPT Cech completed the Military Intelligence Captain's Career Course and was subsequently assigned to Fort Campbell, KY and 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 502nd Infantry Regiment until October 2007. There she served six months as the Brigade Electronic Attack Officer and another six months as the Brigade Assistant Intelligence Officer. In October 2007 CPT Cech was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment as the BN Intelligence officer, where she served until she was assigned to the Downers Grove Recruiting Company in June 2009.Deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004-2005, Mosul; and Operation Iraqi Freedom 2008-2009, Baghdad. Her awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Bronze Numeral 2), the Valorous Unit Award, the Combat Action Badge and the Order of the Spur.
