While Community High School District 99's Radio and Television classes do teach students about the technical elements of production, we are also committed to fostering skills in critical reading and thinking, writing, public speaking, planning, and group work.

Radio Classes are open to all North and South students grades 9-12.
Before a student can become a WDGCDJ, he or she must pass Radio I with an A or a B.

Radio I
In this class, students learn the basics of radio programming, history, and performance. Over the course of the semester students learn to write and perform newscasts, live radio dramas, talk shows, and advertisements. Class consists of lectures and group work.  Students work with a DJ mentor to master the use of studio equipment.
Radio II
In Radio II, students learn advanced editing techniques and produce programming for on-air use. Students prepare professional quality public service announcements, interviews, game shows, dramas, and music review spots.  Students use the computer program Audition, a non-linear editing system. By the end of the semester, students have an audio portfolio of their projects.
Radio III
Radio III is an independent study class which gives students hands-on experience running a station. Students produce specialty programming for the station.
Each of  the above courses is one semester long.
