Recently the Board of Education and I have received questions from a number of community members about how District 99 evaluates its non-tenured or “probationary” teachers. More specifically, the questions concern the content and process of evaluation, the standards used, and the support systems available to non-tenured teachers during the process, the role of the building administration in the process, and the factors used/considered when making decisions about retaining or releasing non-tenured teachers from the District.
I would like to offer a summary of my responses to those questions here as well as to provide links to specific documents and sources for those individuals interested in greater information or detail.
