District 99 Transition Students Participate in Chicagoland Transition League Event

On January 26, District 99 Transition 99 students celebrated a night of fellowship and dancing at their Winter Formal. The event was held at the Honey Jam Cafe in Bolingbrook with 20 students in attendance. Students were encouraged to “dress to impress” for the special occasion. Some students traveled to the Technology Center of DuPage (TCD) to receive haircuts, updos, manicures and makeup application by TCD students. Jeanna Tenuta is the Coordinator of the Cosmetology program at Technology Center of DuPage.

Transition 99 is a part of the Chicagoland Transition League, which is a coalition of transition aged students who gather throughout the school year for social activities. The coalition consists of students from Valley View 365 STEP, Indian Prairie 204, Naperville 203 and Transition 99. Other activities this past year have included a Sports Day, a Fishing Derby, and most recently, the Winter Formal. The April and May events will include a basketball and volleyball tournament.

“When our students connect with their peers from across the Chicagoland area, it provides an important social learning opportunity,” said Jenny Patrick, Vocational Coordinator at Transition 99. “We are grateful for community members who offer up their services for our students, including TCD and the Honey Jam Cafe.” Kirk Mauriello, owner of Honey Jam Cafe, also currently employs Transition 99 students at the Downers Grove location.
