BOE Business meeting on June 20, 2016

The District 99 Board of Education held its business meeting on June 20, 2016. It was the final meeting for retiring Superintendent Dr. Mark McDonald, and he reflected on his service with current and former Board members. Each Board member thanked Dr. McDonald, and outgoing President of the Downers Grove Education Association Jake Giblin commended Dr. McDonald’s leadership.

2016-2020 District 99 Teacher Agreement

The Board approved the meeting minutes from June 3, 2016 meeting; at this meeting, the four-year contract agreement with the Downers Grove Education Association was approved. Please read about the agreement here.

Meal Costs to Rise in 2016-17

For the upcoming school year, lunch prices will rise to $3 from $2.65 and breakfast prices will rise to $1.50 from $1.25. The increases were necessary due to the change in the district’s food services provider and requirements of the National School Lunch (and Breakfast) program. Please see details about the increase here. The new prices are comparable to those charged by other school districts in the area.

District Intervention Plans

Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Gina Ziccardi reviewed the process the district follows to receive Title 1 grants, which provide federal funds to support interventions for eligible students. For example, the district provides detailed plans for how it meets Title 1 expectations. Please read the plan here. “I love all the things we do to capture every student no matter where they are on the spectrum,” commented Board Member Julia Beckman. The Board of Education unanimously approved the plan.
