The 2004-05 school year brought unprecedented achievements and honors for the
students of North and South High Schools. A sampling is highlighted here.
Service to the Community
- "Relay for Life"

Academic Success
- District 99 had four students selected as Finalists in the National
Merit Scholarship Program, placing them in the top 1/2% of all students
nationwide
- In the National Merit Scholarship Program, District 99 had 25 students
designated Commended, placing them in the top 5% of all students
nationwide.
- District 99 had three students recognized through the National
Achievement Scholarship Program
- A District 99 student was one of 70 finalists named to the Chicago
Tribune All-State Academic Team
- A District 99 student was one of 25 finalists named to the IHSA
All-State Academic Team
- 276 students received All Academic Recognition
- In the Advanced Placement Program, there were record numbers in each
category: 463 students participated, 942 examinations were taken and 78%
of the scores were "3" or above.
- District 99 had 227 students selected as Illinois State Scholars
Vocational Success
- In vocational competitions, District 99 had 59 State Competitors, 1
Outstanding State Award, 7 National Competitors and 1 National Winner
- District 99 had two students who were members of the Technology Center
of DuPage team that took third place in the Pit Crew Competition at the
"World of Wheels" show at McCormick Place
- District 99 had three students at the Technology Center of DuPage who
placed in the top 10 in their respective division in the Skills USA
State Championship competition
- COD's Vocational Skills Program, which three District 99 teachers helped
create, won the 2004 Illinois Community College Board Award for
Innovative Workforce Development Initiative
Special Education Success
- District 99 had 44 Multi-Needs students training in the Community, 18 of
those employer paid
- District 99 LD and Multi-Needs Vocational Programs worked together to
form a partnership with Starbucks. Two district students have been hired
in area stores
- The College of DuPage hired two District 99 Multi-Needs students as
part-time employees, in library and custodial services, respectively
Athletic Success
- District 99 teams won six IHSA Regional Championships and five Sectional
Championships
- District 99 teams won 12 Athletic Conference Championships
- District 99 had twenty-two students win Individual State Medals in IHSA
competition
- 165 students received All Conference Recognition
- The North High Trojans won the IHSA State Championship in 8A Football
- The South High Mustangs won the IHSA State Championship in Boys' Soccer.
- The South High Fillies Dance Team won the Halftime Illinois State
Championship
- North High took third place in the IHSA State Badminton Tournament
- South High took third place in the IHSA State Boys' Basketball
Tournament
- South High took fourth place in the IHSA State Girls' Volleyball
Tournament
- North High took seventh place in the IHSA State Boys' Cross-Country Meet
District 99 Art/Music/Extracurricular Success
- The South High Speech Team won the IHSA State Speech Team Championship,
claiming their 10th championship in the last 20 years
- District 99 had three students sweep the awards for the Congressional
Art Show in our congressional district. The First Place painting is now
on display at the United States Capitol Building
- District 99 had 5 students merit Silver and Gold Key Awards in the 2005
National Scholastic Art Awards. These students were in the top 1/10th of
a percent nationally
- District 99 students were awarded the Grand Prize and Popular Choice
Awards in the 2005 Great Frame Up's National Competition
- District 99 Music Ensemble tours included the German Music Exchange, the
Marching Mustangs performance in the 2005 London New Year's Day Parade,
and the NHS Choir tour to San Diego
- District 99 had a record 33 students selected to participate in the 2005
Illinois Music Educators' Association All State Band, Choir, Orchestra
and Jazz Band
- District 99 had 2 students selected to participate in the 2005 Bands of
America National Honor Band; one student was selected to perform with
the Blue Lake Symphonic Orchestra in a 4-week tour of Europe
