Award-winning soloist, chamber musician, film studio artist, teacher, and conductor; DaJuan Brooks is creating his own mark in various musical avenues around the United States. Mr. Brooks is from Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he attended Los Osos High School and The University of Redlands Pre-College. After his time there, Mr. Brooks went on to receive his Bachelor's of Music from The University of Arizona, studying clarinet performance under Jerry Kirkbride.
DaJuan Brooks serves as the Band Director in the Fine Arts Department at Downers Grove South High School. Brooks' responsibilities include the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Marching Mustangs, Mustang Pep Band, Jazz Workshop, and the conductor of the musicals at DGS. Mr. Brooks also is a member of the Northshore Concert Band, and plays in studios and orchestras around the Chicago-land area. He also is on music staff and is the lead woodwind technician at Chromium Winds, the two-time WGI Independent Open Champions.
Mr. Brooks graduated from Northwestern University earning a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and Music Education studying under Steve Cohen, Laurie Bloom, Leslie Grimm, Maud Hickey, and Sarah Bartolome. He has performed in the Northwestern Symphonic Wind Ensemble as clarinetist and principal bass clarinet, principal clarinetist of the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra and has received one of the Bienen School of Music's high honors; The John P. Paynter Fellowship. Mr. Brooks has been the principal clarinetist of the University of Arizona Wind Ensemble and has performed as principal bass clarinetist of the Arizona Symphony, E- flat clarinetist of the UA Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, and principal clarinetist, bass clarinetist, and saxophonist in the orchestra for the UA Theatre and Film department. Mr. Brooks was a finalist of the UA Presidentʼs Competition in 2010, 2012, and 2013, won the SBCMEA Solo competition is 2010, and has been featured as a repeat performer on KUAT since 2011 as a chamber ensemble artist with strings and other wind instrumentalist. Mr. Brooks has also been selected as a conductor in the Nation Band Association’s Young Conductor and Composer Mentor Project where he worked with Anthony Maiello, Dr. Paula Crider, Colonel Larry H. Lang, and The United States Air Force Band in Washington D.C. He soon there after, was selected to conduct The United States Pershing’s Own Army Band in Washington D.C. with Gary Green and Andrew J. Esch. Mr. Brooks has studied conducting with Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Donald Nally, Dr. Robert Hasty, Gregg Hanson, and Joey Bello.
