Congratulations, DGS DECA students!

37 District 99 students competed at the Illinois State Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Competition and seven qualified for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando in April. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

South High DECA had eight state competitors and three placed top 10 in their respective events and qualified for the National competition.

South High State DECA Qualifiers: Joshua Rudolph, Ben Bogdanski, Peter Pierropoulos, Sean Andrews, Trevor Owcarz, Casady Dinkel, Chelsey Mendoza, Jillian Scott

South High Students - Top 10 and National Qualifiers:

  • Ben Bogdanski: top 10 in Innovation Plan - National Qualifier

  • Jillian Scott: 3rd place in Marketing Communications - National Qualifier

“Our students have worked diligently for competition,” South High Career and Technical Education teacher and DECA Coach Paul Krick said. “DECA competition prepares our students for a career in business. During competition, DECA students must use their critical thinking skills to solve problem in 10 minutes and present their solutions to judges who are business professionals. We look forward to watching Ben, Mark, and Jillian compete at the national level next month.”
