DGS Key Club Presents 6th Annual Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk on April 8

Key Club's Mustang Trot 5K will take place on Sunday, April 8 at South High.

The Downers Grove South High School Key Club is hosting its sixth annual Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk to benefit the LUNGevity Foundation on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at South High School.

Race registration for adults is $25 and students are $20. Race participants can register online or by mailing in a form to South High Key Club by April 5. Credit cards can only be used for online registration. If a community member does not want to participate in the run/walk, they can still make a donation to LUNGevity. Runners/walkers (adults and students) can register at the door for $30. The race begins at 9 a.m. with packet pick-up and registration starting at 8 a.m. Following the race, the raffle and awards ceremony will take place near the West Events Entrance. For a $5 donation, children can participate in the Pony Trot obstacle course in the large gym. Face painting and pictures with the Easter Bunny will also be available.

Last year, Key Club’s Mustang Trot raised $6,000 for Special Olympics Illinois. South High Key Club sponsors and teachers, Adrienne Miller and Amy Klug, hope the Mustang Trot raises as much money, if not more, for the LUNGevity Foundation.

For the 2017-18 school year, the South High student body voted to support the LUNGevity Foundation as their philanthropy project. One reason the students chose this organization was to honor Eileen Moroney, South High Fine Arts Secretary, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Read the Blue Print article and watch this video to learn more about Mrs. Moroney’s story.

“South High students want to make a difference for those who are battling with lung cancer, in honor of Mrs. Moroney’s battle and victory,” South High Student Activities Director Jennifer Martinez said. “Through several community events, the students have already raised more than $5,000. We look forward to exceeding our $10,000 goal with the addition of money raised from the Mustang Trot.”

In order for Key Club to be able to donate as much as possible to LUNGevity, the Mustang Trot is seeking donations from local businesses and corporations. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, visit the sponsor page on the race website or contact Amy Klug at aklug@csd99.org.

Packet pick-up and runner/walker check-in, as well as the raffle and awards ceremony, will take place by the Mustang statue outside of South High’s West Events Entrance. The race will begin and end directly in front of the school by the bus lot. Visit the Mustang Trot website to register for the race and to find more information.
