Frank Piekarz

Faculty

Frank Piekarz began his career with District 99 in 1996 and serves as the Director of Choirs in the Downers Grove North High Fine Arts Department. He is also Coordinator for Introduction to Teaching and an AP Music Theory Instructor. Since his start at District 99, he's taught Concert Choir, A Cappella Choir, Treble Ensemble, Chamber Choir, AP Music Theory, and Introduction to Teaching.

Prior to joining the D99 Community, Piekarz he taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses in music education at Northern Illinois University. Before that he spent his first two years teaching general music, choral music, and math at Butler Junior High School in Oakbrook. 

Pierkarz earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education (Vocal/Choral Emphasis) from the University of Illinois in 1994, and went on to receive a Master of Music Degree (Music Education Emphasis) from Northern Illinois University in 1999. He has a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum Leadership from Northern Illinois University, which he earned in 2006.

He and his wife live in Lisle with their three children.

Piekarz's Teaching Philosophy:

Students learn best when they form meaningful positive relationships with other learners, including their teachers.  Motivation for learning is strongest when students feel valued as people who can make meaningful contributions.
