North High Teacher and Cross Country Coach Named Coach of the Year

Congratulations, Coach Sipple!

North High science teacher and cross country coach John Sipple was named the 2017-18 Illinois Boys Cross Country Coach of Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Each year, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Administrators select coaches from each sport based upon the positive work each coach has done with athletes in their program. The National Federation of State High School Associations sponsors the award.

“It is an honor to be recognized by our state sports association,” Coach Sipple said. “This honor is truly a reflection on all of the consistent hard work and dedication that our runners and coaching staff put in throughout the year.”

Coach Sipple is the North High Boys Cross Country Head Coach and a Boys Track & Field Assistant Coach at Downers Grove North High School. In 2017, Coach Sipple’s teams were named the 3A State Cross Country Champions and NXR Midwest Champions. Coach Sipple’s cross country teams were runners up at the IHSA State Cross Country meets in 2013 and 2016.

“On behalf of North High, we are proud to have Coach Sipple as one of our educators and coaches,” North High Principal Janice Schwarze said. “His dedication to our students and student-athletes is an inspiration to us all.”

Earlier this year, Sipple was named the 3A North Division Coach of the Year by the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (ITCCCA). Click here to read more.
