Three Students at DGN Named National Merit Scholars

North High students Miles Christensen, Christopher Bull, John Cagney are named National Merit Scholars.

Three students at North High School in Downers Grove have been named as finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP), an academic competition for recognition and scholarships sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The designation recognizes a student’s “outstanding academic promise,” according to the NMSC.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are recognized, which represents the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. 

Of the 1.5 million entrants, approximately 15,000 of these students were named as finalists, which represents the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. 

The students named as National Merit Scholars include:

  • Christopher Bull 
  • John Cagney 
  • Miles Christensen 

“Being named a National Merit Scholar is an elite recognition, and we are so proud of Chris, John and Miles for this accomplishment,” says Janice Schwarze, principal of North High. “This recognition is a validation of not only their natural abilities but also their commitment to learning.”
