DGN Student Named to IHSA Academic Team, Honorable Mention

Downers Grove North High School senior Emma Moravec has been named to the Illinois High School Association’s 2016-17 All-State Academic Team. She is one of 26 students from across the state to be placed on the team, based on her academic record, participation in IHSA sponsored activities and outstanding leadership. DGN senior Robert Falconer was named one of the 50 Honorable Mention recipients. Nearly 475 nominations were received from IHSA schools statewide; each school is invited to nominate two students.

“Both Emma and Robert are outstanding students and student athletes, and we’re proud that they’re receiving this prestigious recognition,” says North High Principal Janice Schwarze. “They are wonderful role models for our entire student body.”

Emma Moravec has participated on the Girls Cross Country and Track & Field teams throughout her high school career. She has numerous conference, sectional and regional medals, including winning state medals in 2014 (4th in the 4x800 meter), 2015 (2nd in 800 meter, 4th in 4x800 meter) and 2016 (4nd in the 800 meter run). Robert Falconer has participated on the Boys Track & Field team, and was an indoor conference medalist, sectional medalist, and state qualifier in 2016.

The nominations were evaluated by a committee of IHSA principals, athletic directors and activities directors.

“This is a tremendous honor and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “These students are the embodiment of what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience.”

Moravec and other members of the All-State Academic Team will be honored at a banquet in Bloomington in April.
