The American Heart Association has awarded Downers Grove North High School its traveling trophy for raising the most funds of all schools in the Chicagoland area during its Hoops for Heart Event. DGN student leaders organized and advertised the one-day event, which included a variety of physical activities for students who made a donation.
“This has been a tradition in North High’s P.E. department for several years,” says teacher Jackie McCormick, who has led the effort. “The event creates an awareness of the significant impact that heart disease has on many people, and the opportunity to do something to help in an active, fun way.”
This year, the school raised $16,000 for the American Heart Association.
