Board Policies - Section 1
1.20 Legal Basis of the Board of Education
The Board of Education is a legal body which derives its authority from the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Illinois.
Members are state officials in that they receive their powers through state law, and they are local officials by virtue of their responsibilities for the local public school system. They are directly responsible to the people of the school district for providing the kind of schools the community desires and is willing to finance for its students.
The Board is the policy-making body. Its policies serve as guides for discretionary action for its own decisions and for administrative and operative decisions of its employees. The execution of these policies, as set forth by the Board, shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent.
