| Ms. Carol Redell Carol has been on the faculty of Downers Grove South for the past twelve years. She teaches United States History and Issues in Contemporary Law. While working at South she has been very active in the teachers association serving in numerous positions. She is currently the district representative and has attended both state and national conventions on numerous occasions. She is a well-respected teacher who is willing to try new experiences. She is currently working on community service projects for South High students. Carol explains that her primary purpose for making the trip
is to bring a part of a changing world into her classroom. Armenia is a country that is
going through the same pains of becoming a democratic nation as we did two hundred years
ago and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn from them.
Ms. Martha Merlios Martha has taught at both North and South over the past twenty years and is a well-traveled expert in these kinds of projects. Having visited the Soviet Union with students on several trips, as well as traveling throughout Europe last summer, she brings a multitude of personal experiences with her. Martha Teaches World Studies at North High presently and is the Vice President of the teachers association. Like Carol, Martha wants to learn more about an ancient culture while at the same time tying the experience through the Internet. The opportunity to tie the past to the future is quite alive in this project. Mr. Bill Hector The non-travelling part of this project is Bill Hector who is serving as the Program Director and will be one of the hosts for our Armenian guests. Bill has taught for thirty years, half of them in this district. It was Bill who received the invitation to participate and has been the principal organizer behind the scenes. There are many others who have been active in putting the Web page together and as the project unfolds we hope to mention all of them. We are particularly grateful to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and the Principals of both North and South for their encouragement and support. We hope this project lives up to their support. Thanks also to South High Students Justin Ruark, Dino Corradi, and Chris Pelczarski, for helping to build this site.
