On Monday December 6 our visitors were scheduled to visit classrooms
and meet teachers and students at South. Armineh spent most of her day with Mary
Ellen Cantillon who works in the ESL program. Since Armineh teaches English as a
second (or in some cases a third) language in Armenia, she felt visiting these
classes would be more useful to her than visiting our regular English classes.
Armineh was able to observe both classes and resource periods with students
present. There was also time to talk to Mary Ellen about methods and procedures.
While this was going on Ruben was having his first meetings with the math department teachers at South. Ruben expressed an interest in meeting with Geometry, Calculus and Statistics teachers during his stay. On this day he spent time with Dan Miller and his Geometry classes. While he was in these classes Ruben not only observed American teaching methods and our students, but he also answered questions that our staff and students had about Armenia. Ruben and Armineh also spent some time familiarizing themselves with South and meeting other staff members. They also took the time to have ID badges made for the rest of their stay at South. Even with all this going on their day didn’t end at 3:20. After a quick supper at Carol’s, we all went to the School Board Workshop meeting at the ASC. Ruben and Armineh were both introduced to the board members and each one gave their impressions of the visit so far. The board members had many questions which both Ruben and Armineh were happy to answer. Finally at about 8:30 their very busy day came to an end. Submitted by Carol Redell |
